The style of our “Grandes Mises” wines is the result of the encounter of two sister region : Burgundy and Beaujolais.
It is inspired by Burgundian tradition that utilizes long vinifications. The Beaujolais contribution is the emblematic varietal – Gamay – which grows on granitic soils.
Mommessin’s specific technique of delestage allows these handcrafted wines, intended for laying down, to showcase their own unique personality.
Fruity and easy drinking wines, our Beaujolais classics conceal beautiful surprises. Unexpected, unsuspected, our wines, produced in accordance with the principles of conservation of nature and in the service of unique terroir are bearers of our vineyard identity and tradition.
This wine, made from organically-farmed plots, perfectly embodies the essence of Maison Mommessin, with a Gamay distinguished by its balance between fruitiness and powerfulness.
On the heights of the town of Lyon, between the Beaujolais area and the Rhône Valley and at the junction of several major climatic influences, the Coteaux du Lyonnais vineyards are particularly subject to oceanic and continental hazards. With an altitude situated between 200 and 550 m above sea level, the best vines location is on the plateaus facing east to benefit from the best sunshine, commonly called “Les Hauts Levants” by the local winegrowers commonly.
On a subsoil essentially composed of granites and metamorphic rocks with a wide diversity of terroirs, Gamay, the iconic grape variety of Maison Mommessin, offers a unique, spicy, structured and complex expression, in the spirit of the great wines of the east part of the Massif Central.
The grapes for this “cuvée were harvested from different terroirs selected in the vineyards of France, vinified and blended together to obtain this very beautiful expression of the Mommessin style where fruitiness and power are wonderfully balanced, as well as the woodiness and the spicy notes, structure and elegance.
Maison Mommessin wines are regularly mentioned in the press and receive distinctions and medals at various international competitions.
