A lovely wine which will perfectly match with traditional Lyonnaise cuisine: charcuterie, pâté en croute, cooked and marinated beef, dumplings and other specialties. It will also accompany an entire meal right up to the cheeses platter.
Already very pleasant with fruity and crunchy youth notes, it can easily be kept for 2 to 3 years in the cellar in good conditions.
On the heights of the town of Lyon, between the Beaujolais area and the Rhône Valley and at the junction of several major climatic influences, the Coteaux du Lyonnais vineyards are particularly subject to oceanic and continental hazards. With an altitude situated between 200 and 550 m above sea level, the best vines location is on the plateaus facing east to benefit from the best sunshine, commonly called “Les Hauts Levants” by the local winegrowers commonly.
On a subsoil essentially composed of granites and metamorphic rocks with a wide diversity of terroirs, Gamay, the iconic grape variety of Maison Mommessin, offers a unique, spicy, structured and complex expression, in the spirit of the great wines of the east part of the Massif Central.
- Manual harvest.
- Traditional Beaujolais semi-carbonic vinification.
- Ageing in vats.
The winter was cold and dry with a number of frosts, which, in recent years, are rare phenomena in the South. The humid spring slowed down the start of the growth cycle in the vineyard.
The record heat in May caused a sudden boost and the vines went from a late budburst to flowering 8 to 10 days ahead of schedule. An assessment of the situation at the time of fruit set confirmed a good harvest with volumes 30% higher than in 2021. June was characterised by stormy spells with heavy rainfall, which was beneficial to the grapes' development. The hot summer, with periods of scorching heat, made the vines on the slopes and those with no irrigation thirsty.
This typically early vintage produces colourful wines with a vast array of aromas and good concentration.
